Set against the backdrop of communal violence and religious persecution in 1960s East Pakistan, this poignant historical drama follows the journey of freedom fighter Nimai and his family. Forced to flee to Tripura, India, after rising unrest and the mysterious disappearance of his daughter Ashima, Nimai struggles to rebuild his shattered life in an unfamiliar land.

Porobasi Plot

In Tripura, Nimai and his family find shelter among an indigenous community led by Daishamoni. As Nimai begins teaching village children and attempts to settle down, his son Atul falls in love with Daishamoni’s daughter, Kungphui. The two eventually marry, despite resistance from her brother. Meanwhile, demographic changes caused by the influx of Hindu refugees from Bangladesh create tension among sections of the local youth, some of whom turn to extremism.

Years later, Ashima is found alive, now living as Amina Begum under a new identity. However, Nimai struggles to accept her transformation and later regrets his inability to embrace her. Tragedy strikes when militants kill Nimai’s wife Khushibala and abduct Atul, who is tortured to death despite Nimai arranging ransom money. Devastated and broken, Nimai is once again forced into displacement, leaving the village with pregnant Fulmoti in search of safety and belonging.
