One of Bollywood’s most awaited patriotic films, Border 2, is scheduled to hit theatres on January 23, 2026. Made in Hindi, the epic action war drama is a sequel to J. P. Dutta’s 1997 cult classic Border and is being mounted on a significantly larger scale with a contemporary cinematic treatment. The film is co-written and directed by Anurag Singh, while production is handled jointly by T-Series Films and J. P. Films.

Border 2 Budget

Border 2 is reportedly made on an estimated budget ranging between ₹150 crore and ₹250 crore, positioning it among the most expensive war films produced in Indian cinema.

Releasing during the Republic Day weekend, Border 2 boasts a substantial runtime of approximately 200 minutes, underlining its ambition as a large-scale war narrative designed for the big screen.

Border 2 Plot

Set against the backdrop of the 1971 India–Pakistan war. Border 2 expands the scope of its predecessor by presenting a multi-front war drama. For the first time in the franchise, the film brings together the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy within a single, unified narrative. Key historical events such as Operation Chengiz Khan, the Battles of Poonch and Basantar, and the historic defence of INS Khukri form the backbone of the storyline. The film aims to portray the scale, coordination, and human cost of war on a far broader canvas than the original.

Border 2 Cast

The film features an ensemble led by Sunny Deol, who makes a powerful return as an Indian Army officer. Joining him are Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, each representing a different wing of the Indian armed forces. Supporting roles are played by Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh. Several characters are inspired by real-life war heroes, adding authenticity and emotional depth to the narrative.

Border 2 Production and Filming

Principal photography took place throughout 2025 across several strategically important and geographically diverse locations in India. The film was shot at Jhansi and Babina Cantonments, the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla, as well as in Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Naval sequences were filmed using real assets, including INS Vikrant, along with other undisclosed air force and naval bases. The makers relied heavily on authentic military locations and installations to ensure realism in combat and training sequences.

Border 2 Music

The film’s background score has been composed by John Stewart Eduri, while the songs are created by Anu Malik, Mithoon, Sachet–Parampara, Vishal Mishra, and Gurmoh. The complete music album was released on January 14, 2026. Notably, the soundtrack includes recreated versions of some iconic songs from Border (1997), reimagined for a new generation.

Border 2 Box Office Collection Prediction

The film is set for an extended 4-day Republic Day weekend, which is expected to drive high collections through Monday. This film could do business of approximately 30 to 40 crore on its first day, and could collect 75 crore worldwide.

As of January 25, 2026, Border 2 has crossed the ₹100 crore mark worldwide within its first three days of release. Highest opening of 2026,The film sold over 7.5 lakh tickets for Sunday, generating over ₹24 crore gross from pre-sales alone.With an estimated ₹67–73 crore earned in its first two days, the film is expected to cross the ₹100 crore mark by the end of Day 3.
