Karuppu Box Office Collection Day 5: Suriya and Trisha’s Film Nears Rs 150 Crore Worldwide

Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s Tamil film Karuppu continues its strong box office run. Directed by RJ Balaji, the movie has crossed Rs 150 crore worldwide

Suriya’s latest Tamil release, Karuppu, is steadily gaining momentum at the box office. Co-starring Trisha Krishnan, the film has managed to win over audiences despite facing unexpected hurdles around its release. Positive word-of-mouth and strong theatre occupancy are now helping the movie post solid numbers both in India and overseas.

As per trade reports from Sacnilk, the film earned around Rs 12.75 crore on its fifth day in India. With this, its domestic total has reportedly reached Rs 95.05 crore. The film is now moving closer to the Rs 100 crore milestone in the Indian market, which is considered a strong achievement for a Tamil release in its opening week.

The overseas response has also added to the film’s success story. Karuppu has reportedly crossed Rs 142 crore worldwide and is now aiming for the Rs 150 crore mark globally. Fans of Suriya have especially turned up in large numbers in international markets, where the film has been performing consistently since release.

Directed by RJ Balaji, the movie features a packed cast that includes Indrans, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Sshivada, Supreeth Reddy and Yogi Babu. RJ Balaji also appears in the film apart from handling direction duties. The project has been backed by Dream Warrior Pictures, while the screenplay has been written by RJ Balaji along with Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, T. S. Gopi Krishnan and Karan Aravind Kumar.

Interestingly, the film’s journey to theatres was not smooth. Karuppu was originally scheduled to hit cinemas on May 14, but several morning shows were cancelled unexpectedly. The makers did not officially explain the reason behind the sudden disruption, leaving fans confused and disappointed, especially those who had already booked tickets in advance.

During the delay, RJ Balaji shared an emotional message on social media, saying the team was trying its best to overcome the problems surrounding the release. He mentioned that the film had faced difficulties throughout its long production journey of nearly 32 months and expressed faith that things would eventually fall into place. Later, the filmmaker also became emotional while speaking about the uncertainty around the release.

Thankfully for the team, the situation was resolved and the film finally arrived in theatres. Since then, audience response has remained largely positive, giving Karuppu the strong theatrical run the makers had hoped for.
