TIGER 3 REVIEW : “Tiger 3,” the latest installment in Yash Raj Films’ popular Tiger franchise, hit theaters on November 12, 2023. Directed by Maneesh Sharma, the film continues the story of Avinash alias Tiger (Salman Khan), a secret service agent for RAW, and his wife Zoya Nazar (Katrina Kaif), a former Pakistani ISI agent.

Plot Overview

The film opens with Tiger rescuing his colleague, Gopi (Ranvir Shorey), who reveals a threatening plot against India. This leads Tiger to Pakistan, where he encounters Aatish Rehman (Emraan Hashmi), an ex-ISI agent opposing the Pakistani Prime Minister’s peace proposal with India. The narrative revolves around Tiger’s efforts to thwart a conspiracy against the Pakistani PM and prevent political upheaval.

Themes and Screenplay

Aditya Chopra pens a story focusing on Indo-Pak peace, a theme that may not resonate with all segments of the audience. Shridhar Raghavan’s screenplay, heavily leaning towards the protection of the Pakistani PM, lacks patriotic fervor and family emotions, potentially alienating Indian viewers. The film attempts to blend action with political intrigue but struggles to maintain a consistent tone.

Performances

Salman Khan delivers a robust performance as Tiger, particularly excelling in action sequences. Katrina Kaif, as Zoya, complements him well. Emraan Hashmi stands out as Aatish Rehman, showcasing his acting prowess. However, the supporting cast, including Kumud Mishra, Anand Vidhaat, and Chandrachoor Rai, have limited roles that don’t leave a significant impact.

Direction and Technical Aspects

Maneesh Sharma’s direction fails to evoke the expected emotional depth, making the film feel average. Pritam’s music adds flavor, with “Ruaan” and “Le ke Prabhu ka naam” being notable tracks. The cinematography by Anay Om Goswamy is commendable, capturing thrilling action sequences and exotic locales effectively. The film’s editing and production design are competent, enhancing its visual appeal.

Box Office and Reception

Despite its shortcomings, “Tiger 3” is expected to perform well at the box office, thanks to the franchise’s popularity, Salman Khan’s star power, and the festive release period. The film’s opening was robust, particularly in single-screen cinemas, indicating a strong audience pull.

Conclusion

“Tiger 3” emerges as a film with high expectations but delivers a mixed experience. Its deviation from patriotic themes to a more nuanced portrayal of Indo-Pak relations is a bold move but may not align with the audience’s sentiments. The film shines in action and music but falls short in storytelling and emotional depth. As part of the YRF Spy Universe, it adds another chapter but doesn’t quite reach the heights of its predecessors.
